WHAT IS GENERATE ALL ABOUT?

You serve students during a great and important time. We know that there are many resources, and even many camps available that can serve your needs. These days are critical in the faith formation of your students. At GENERATE our team will work hard to serve you and your needs well while creating an experience that will impact the other 51-weeks in your ministry year. We are strategic and intentional to create experiences where the name of Jesus is lifted up, where the Gospel is proclaimed through the preaching and studying of the Word, and where not only are students encouraged to take the next step in their faith journey, but the challenge and opportunity to be a person of global impact is clear. These experiences happen in times of personal devotion, in small group times of reading, listening and responding, in group building and serving, in times of corporate worship, and in strategic times with your church.

In the end, a camp can’t really change a life, but a real experience with God can. We don’t want to simply create moments. We want to partner with you and be a part of moments that matter through the work of God.

The Darkness and The Light

Have you ever been in a place that’s really and truly dark? A place with absolutely zero sources of light? It’s a little unsettling, isn’t it? We lose context. We become disoriented. And if we’re honest, sometimes we get scared.

There is another kind of darkness that surrounds us. It’s not the absence of light. It’s the absence of good. There is a darkness we encounter all the time in our world. The darkness of depression. The darkness of addiction. The darkness of hopelessness. The darkness of violence. The darkness of oppression. The darkness of lostness.

It’s the darkness of a world without good. A world without God. There is darkness.

But there is a light, too. And not just any light. It’s a light that is overwhelming, all-consuming, and perfectly pure . . . a light that refuses to be ignored.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:5

There is a light that drives away darkness. A light that drives out fear. A light that runs off despair. A light that shines for justice. A light that is comforting, and clarifying . . . A light that saves.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12

JOIN US AT GENERATE 2021 as we discover how the light, the ONE TRUE LIGHT, drives out the darkness . . . in the world, and in us.

Day 1 – Let There Be Light: The God Who Creates

Day 2 – The Light Came into the World: The God Who Cares

Day 3 – You Are the Light: The God Who Calls

Day 4 – Light the Darkness: The God Who Commands

The theme is Redefined: Isaiah 42:9

“Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.” – Isaiah 42:9

Human beings are nothing if not creatures of habit. We are drawn to routine. We expect the expected and when it doesn’t happen we get frustrated and confused.

Have you ever noticed the result of something completely disrupting our expectations? When something so out of the ordinary happens that it shatters the status quo? It’s absolute chaos. We don’t know how to respond. But when the disrupter is God, it can be a beautiful chaos.

God is the great redefiner. At the heart of what it means to know and experience God is the process of redefinition. God defines what it means to be new. God spoke a new creation into existence out of nothing, redefining our existence. Through the person and work of Christ, God made complete renewal possible for all who would come to faith in Him, redefining our reality. In the salvation offered by God, we discover a new identity, redefining who we are. And in discovering who God meant for us to always be, our purpose is redefined.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is D-Now?

D-Now stands for Disciple Now.  It’s a weekend where students are challenged to either begin a growing relationship with God or take the next step in their faith with God.  The goal is to challenge students to grow, and example what a healthy disciple’s life looks.  The weekend entails large groups teaching and worship, small group time with Bible teaching, accountability and prayer, service projects, and plenty of time to meet and hang out with friends.

What is the theme Exchange about?

The theme Exchange is based from Ephesian 2:4-5 “Because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions.” In every exchange, something must be given up in order for something to be gained.  At the heart of the Gospel, there is a single, powerful exchange that occurred when a flawless savior took the flaws of humanity to the cross, exchanging His life for ours.

But this one exchange actually empowers countless exchanges in the lives of those who will believe and follow. Death for Life. Self for Christ. Hate for Love. Comfort for Calling.

What does the cost cover?

The cost is $30 per student.  That covers the t-shirt, food, and book that each student will receive.  It also covers the cost of supplies and equipment that will be used for the weekend.

Are there scholarships available?

Scholarships are available, but must be requested in person prior to the weekend.  If you would like to give a scholarship or make a donation, please contact Derrick Laughlin or visit our Give page.

Where do students stay?

Students will be staying at host homes.  Host homes are homes of current, active church members who have agreed to host the students.  Each group is gender-based, (guys with guys and girls with girls), and their group leader will be present with them.  Host homes are only used for sleeping and showering. All other activities will take place at the church.

I want to help.  How can I sign up?

We also love to have extra help.  You can head over to the registration page, and sign-up as a volunteer.  You can choose the area you would like to serve, and we will be in touch with you shortly.

White as Snow

My family and I just finished a vacation in the mountains of Colorado, where the beauty of the Creator God is on display.  From the white-capped mountains, to the white-flocked trees, and the layers and layers of perfectly white snow covering everything, the refrain of Jesus Paid It All was on repeat in my heart and mind.

“Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe.  Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow…”

Outside of the beauty of white, there was frequently brown snow, mostly where the dirt and grim of the road was pushed aside from snow plows.  The white snow was stained with the dirt, rocks and debris now marred, unclean, and of no value. Apart from the brown, we occasional saw a little yellow snow too.

But one of the most interesting thoughts I had on this trip, happened while driving into the mountains.  As we begin our ascent up the mountain, we begin to see cars coming in our direction covered with snow.  I looked at my wife, Sarah, and said “You can tell these cars have been in the mountain.”  And almost instantly Acts 4:13 popped into my head.

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. – Acts 4:13

You see Peter and John were so bold about speaking about Christ, that it was evident to those around them that they had been with Jesus. As simple, uneducated men, they sounded, looked, talked, acted, dressed, and smelled like Jesus.  The leaders who persecuted Jesus, recognized it right away.

And then think back to Moses.  Moses spent so much time with God, that his face literally glowed.

When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. – Exodus 34:29

For Moses, the more time he spent with God, the longer and brighter his face shined.  And as Moses spent less time with God, and more time with the people, the glory (or brightness) began to fade.  In the same way, some cars we saw had a lot of snow, some very little, and some none at all.  You can tell from their appearance if they were in the mountains, and for how long.

Our relationship with Christ is the same way and should be evident the same way.  Others around us should recognize that we have been with God.  Our face (or attitude) should be so evident of Christ, that when others see us they have to hide their face because it is so over powering.  For Moses, God’s glory faded because it was just temporary, but today we have the unending, never-fading, everlasting glory of God manifested in the Holy Spirit that actually lives within us.  The same power and glory of God, shining on the face of Moses, and evident in thoughts and actions of Peter and John, is the very same God who takes resident in our hearts.

As I reflect on this idea, this magnificent blessing God has given me, I can’t help but be reminded that:

  • The power and glory must come from God – it’s not my own
  • My life should be centered on spending time with God in prayer, communication, and daily living
  • My actions and lifestyle should reflect Christ, not my own agenda

Finally, I’m reminded of the red-lettered words of Christ:

By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. – John 15:35

As we start out another new year, my prayer for you and I is that we pursue Christ with everything in us.  We must spend time with God in prayer, listening, and daily reading scripture.  And our lives must be evident of Christ, that people will know we have been with Him.  Our faces will shine.  “ALL people will KNOW you are MY DISCIPLES, because of your LOVE  for another.”

Don’t Miss Christmas

Through the month of December, students will be diving into the biblical story of the first Christmas. We will be taking a little different look, with the intention to no miss the main point of Christmas, Christ.

As our gift from God, Jesus would leave His throne in Heaven, be wrapped in flesh, and become the perfect, sinless sacrifice to reconcile humanity to God. Because of this, we are counted righteous, holy, redeemed, and adopted by our heavenly Father.

Week 2 – Dec 12th: The Gift That Changed Everything – Luke 2:1-20
